Ice Box Derby

Looking for some free weekend fun to hold you over til next payday? You can do some spectatin’ or participatin’ at New York’s  First Ice Box DerbyZombie Unicorn (a group of New Yorkers who get together to “engage in mischief”) is hosting the event for free on the east side of Central Park (104th Street area).

From the event’s Facebook page:

Think Big Wheel meets sheet of ice…. create a soapbox vehicle, a sled with caster wheels, a big wheel with skis, trike with tin foil or some similar creation that can roll and slide (if we’re lucky enuf to have ice). Make sure u can turn or can crash into a fence. Looking for creativity… match this with your costume – be super be warm but definitely be sexy.

.

Other acceptable forms of vehicles: standard Big wheels, skateboard (you will be sitting). NO BIKES… nothing where you are standing — its toooo fast for that. Budget $0-$29 and u should be good. Lots of free parts on trash day.

.

We will be hurdling down a walkway towards a pond and a fence–it’s much faster than the regular course used in the The Great Big Wheel Race.

.

Prizes for most original vehicle, best costume and best action maneuver.

.

THIS EVENT IS FREE: If you are racing you must RSVP w/ your name to flopaint@gmail.com. Spectators, please spectate!!!
