The iPhone 3G and iPod Touch are pretty pimp devices that allow anyone from the the geekiest tech geek to the casual user to access tons of fun games and useful applications. While there are dozens upon dozens of pay apps that offer robust functionality, there are also dozens upon dozens of free apps that are just as good.
“If they’re so good, why are they free?”, you’re probably asking. Well, Debbie Downer, some altruistic folk actually believe in bringing joy to the masses. On the other hand, other developers toss out free applications while there are still some bugs and fixes to be hammered out, and then later upgrade that app to a pay app (Weight Tracker, for example). Just think of yourself as a beta tester that’s helping to perfect a product. But this article is all about the freebies, so let’s dive right into some of our favorite iPhone 3G and iPod Touch apps.
AP Mobile News Network
Want to stay on top of local, national, and international news? AP Mobile News Network, the official app of the Associated Press, brings the world to your fingertips. You can tweak the setup to bring you the news that’s most vital to you (Showbiz, Business, Sports, Wacky, Politics, etc.), as well as save and share stories. If text ain’t your thang, you can view the “Today in Photos” or “Today in Video.”

BubbleWrap
You know the joy that comes with receiving a new gift, opening the box, and lifting out the present–only to put it to the side as you spend the next 10 minutes of your life playing with the bubblewrap? We certainly hope so, as popping those little air pockets is one of life’s little pleasures (and can serve as a huge stress reliever after venturing out into the streets of this ofttimes absolutely bonkers town known as New York City). Now the thrill related with unboxing comes to your iPhone/iPod Touch as a game in which you have to pop as many of the bubbles as you can in the alloted 45 seconds. It sounds easy in theory, but producing a high score requires a keen eye that can discern between a pop and unpopped bubble very quickly, and the ability to string together 5X bonuses. My personal high score is 161, but Lauren recently topped it with 168 (I attribute her success to her slender, hand model-like digits that move like lightning).
Constitution for iPhone and iPod Touch
It’s the constitution! Read it while you still have the chance, and don’t forget to vote.

Facebook
Everyone you went to school with is on it. Everyone that you work with is on it. Now you can be on it even when away from your Mac, PC, or netbook. This application faithfully duplicates the look and feel of the popular social networking site with the familiar blue-and-white color scheme, and the ability to send messages, chat, update your status, and browse your friends’ list as you’d do on desktop, laptop, or netbook. If you’re a Facebook junkie, this is your killer app.
.
Wikipanion
If you’re a hardcore Wikipedia user (read as: you like to edit lots and lots of pages) this isn’t the app for you, as you can’t contribute your knowledge to the database using this application. But if you’re a Wikipedia reader, this is a pretty good alternative to viewing the site using Safari, because you’re taken directly into a slightly stripped down version of Wikipedia-there’s no need to take the extra step of retrieving your Safari bookmark or keying in an URL. Wiki “Ocho Cinco” and be prepared to have a hearty laugh.

Now that you know about these hot lil’ applications, go download ‘em, give ‘em a spin, and let us know whatcha think.

What are the best free games? Apparently today was 1 million apps downloaded, I wonder how many of those were any good!?
I reckon, just like anything else in life, there will be a high crap to quality ratio. But I have to say, the freebies I’ve downloaded are pretty good.
BubbleWrap is a quality time waster. Auora Feint is a kickin’ Tetris rip off that has a creative use of the accelerometer and RPG elements. 21 Pro is an AWESOME is probably the best Blackjack game in the Apps Store, but you have to connect to Wi-Fi to play, as its add supported.
Look for a gaming roundup coming soon.
These are the best apps?!?!??! In who’s mind? Are you on drugs WHILE you write this blog?
The Constitution?
Why on Earth do you need that in an iPhone?!?!??!
How about HanDBase or Tap Forms or something useful? OK, those are not free.
By saying that people should pay $300-600 (depending if they get an AT&T deal) for a phone that can simulate bubble wrap, and then calling your blog post “The 5 Best Free iPhone (blah blah) apps” —
well, it’s freakin’ hilarious.
THANKS for the joke, dude!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
here’s what I’ll offer:
Google’s app,
Yahoo’s app,
YPmobile (Yellow Pages with location sense AND events),
Discover (WiFi filesharing – free),
GoodGuide
I mean, I like Fandango, Google Earth, eBay Mobile, craigsphone, Bloomberg, Public Radio Tuner, CollegeRadio Tuner, iBART, WhitePages Mobile, Urbanspoon, Wired Reviews, Skype, MySpace, Faces Visual Dialer Lite, and a few others also …
But Bubble Wrap?
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
Tell you what –> I can trade you some REAL bubble rap, and you can give me your iPhone so you can do the real thing.
The annoying articles about iBeer and whatever other cool yet useless apps are great for entertainment, but please don’t try to pass these off as reasons to drop serious money on these devices!!!
Unless you want more people to laugh at you!
