Last-Minute Budget SuperBowl Party Idea
February 5, 2010 by Christine Rochelle
The Superbowl is here, so what better way to celebrate this long standing American tradition of football watching and chip snacking than with a football party that will cost you only around $40.
Show Your Team Colors – Head to the nearest dollar store for cups, plates, napkins and plastic silverware with the colors of the team you’re rooting for. For as low as $5, you should have enough paper products to last the night, compared to the $12 it would cost you to get football themed products.
BUDGET = $5
Stuff Your Face – Food is the one area you can really cut back on costs. Ask your guests to bring appetizers to help you out, but make sure you have plans for a main course that will be filling and easy to eat. Try a hearty pasta dish since each pound of pasta will only cost you a dollar and you can top it off the Italian way, with some olive oil and cheese, or buy a jar of sauce for $10 which you can heat up in two minutes. It’s way cheaper than a $40 six foot sub, and will leave you with more money left over for chips or those delicious pigs in a blanket.
BUDGET = $15
Drink Up – A bowl of punch is the easiest and cheapest alternative to supplying drinks to your guests, unless you have a keg you can borrow from the frat boys next door. Check out barnonedrinks.com for simple punch recipes that won’t have you buying four different types of juicy. We’re fans of the Uinta Mountain Special which calls for one handle of cheap vodka ($10) and popsicle sticks ($5/box).
BUDGET = $15
Halftime Sweets – Brownies are probably the easiest and most loved dessert, so grab two boxes of brownies for less than $5 and have them ready by the big halftime show by adding oil, water and eggs.
BUDGET = $5
A slammin’ Superbowl shindig for just $40 and you can pull all of it together that morning, saving plenty of energy for that touchdown dance we know you’ve been practicing.
