Free Wifi in Times Square? This Should be Interesting.

November 11, 2009 by Christine Rochelle

Times Square

Times Square has more than confused tourists, overpriced t-shirts, and flashing lights. The now-pedestrian-friendly neighborhood is kicking off this morning with a celebration of free wi-fi access thanks to a partnership with Yahoo!.

Times Square Alliance and Yahoo! will be in the neighborhood setting up tables for anyone wishing to hook up to the free Wifi. The ‘Times Square Internet Cafe’ they created was also giving out free cups of coffee yesterday, though we missed it. But who cares since deli coffee is still tres cheap, and you probably get it at your office for free anyway.  More importantly, the free wi-fi isn’t going anywhere.

So if you’re looking to get out of the house, and Starbucks just isn’t doing it for you anymore, pull up a lawn chair in Times Square and enjoy working in one of the best New York neighborhoods to people watch.  It may not be as relaxing as a coffee shop, but surely the environment will offer up a lot of inspiration.

It also must be said that all the New Yorkers who chose to live in the Times Square neighborhood, instead of hipster Brooklyn are most definitely getting the last laugh.
