If 90-degree heat and dense humidity doesn’t get you all hot and bothered and ready to jump outside to play a game of baseball in the park, you share the same sentiments as a lot of New Yorkers (myself included). And since the idea of staying cooped up in a semi air-conditioned apartment for twelve hours is a bit less appealing, here are a few indoor-activities we’ve dug up that won’t leave your wallet feeling a few ounces lighter.

1. Green Flea Indoor Market

This large indoor market takes place each Sunday on 77th and Amsterdam inside the MS 44 School Building. Market opens at 10am and runs until 5:30pm and it runs year-round. (100 W. 77th St, New York, NY 10024)

2. Brooklyn Museum

Donate a penny and hop right in to the Brooklyn Museum (conveniently located near the Q,F,2,3) (200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11238)

3. Chelsea Art Galleries

From 14th Street up to 28th Street, you can find a whole slew of art galleries to wander in and out of. Grab an iced coffee and melt the hours away in dimmly lit, air-conditioned loft spaces by yourself or with a friend.

4. Kew Gardens Cinema

Enjoy a flick at the small, art house theater in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. Matinees are $6.50 and they offer a decent selection of independent films. (8105 Lefferts Blvd., Kew Gardens, NY 11415)

5. New York Spa Castle

The famed Queens bath house/ spa/ waterpark is a bargain for a day of pampering yourself and keeping cool. $30 for entry gets you all sorts of relaxation – and it’s open 24 hours. (131-10 11th Avenue, College Point, Queens 11356)
