When the moon hits your eye with a big pizza pie, that’s Brooklyn. Listen up foodies, Brooklyn has been voted as the borough with the best pizza in all of New York City. Nearly 37 percent of respondents said that Brooklyn took the cake-er-slice, when asked in a recent Marist Poll.
Only 25 percent claimed that Manhattan had the best pizza, with Queens and the Bronx trailing behind. Unfortunately, Staten Island didn’t have much of a showing.
Now that we’ve narrowed it down by borough, here are the top three pizza shops you better not fuhgeddabout, and how they rate in price:
Spumoni Gardens (2725 86th St)
Spumoni Gardens is definitely not to miss, with some Jersey and Long Island lovers even willing to take the trip for a Sicilian slice. Some may not be used to the sauce-heavy slices, but that’s how it’s made back in Italia. The catch is, it will cost about $30 for one of those pies, so gather your friends to dig in.
Grimaldi’s (19 Old Fulton Street )
You don’t even have to step foot in Brooklyn to have heard of Grimaldi’s. If you’re willing to endure the long wait, not only will you get to taste some classic thin-crust pizza, but take your slice down to the waterfront and enjoy the view of the Brooklyn Bridge. A large pie will hit you for $14, but keep in mind that thin-crust pizza goes fast.
Di Fara (1424 Avenue J)
Even though Di Fara has been hurting from the recession and is now only opened 5 days a week, that doesn’t stop anyone from heading into quiet Midwood. Di Fara is also known for its thin-crusted pizza. But times are tough and we hear that prices are rising in the small pizza joint — $5 for a slice and $25 for a pie.
And a little bit of advice though, be sure to bring enough cash to cover your meal. Grimaldi’s and Di Fara are cash only, cause that’s how they kept it real in ‘ol Napoli.
