A Cheaper, Better Way to do your Taxes
November 18, 2009 by Christine Rochelle

You have your own phone plan, you pay your rent, and you started to hack away at that credit card debt. But do you do your own taxes? Personally, my goal for the next year is to finally learn enough about finance to not have to have my father do my taxes for me.
I know you may be rolling your eyes at the thought that a 24 year old still doesn’t have control of her finances, but I know I’m not alone. In fact, a 30 year old co-worker had to make a quick trip to her hometown in Virginia, so she could do her taxes with her father.
But you can take control of your finances without having to dish out the cash for an expensive accountant who may talk circles around you. And a great way to start is BIDaWIZ.
BIDaWIZ is an online tool that allows you to post questions about your finances. Then your question is given to CPAs/CFAs who are members on the site and they “bid” on your inquiry. You choose which expert to work with and with one simple payment you have the answer to your accounting questions.
All of this without even having to put ‘Dancing With The Stars’ on pause and leaving the comforts of your home.
Think of the site as an online marketplace, like eBay, except instead of looking for bids on mom’s prom dress you get bids on your finance question. The bids come from licensed CPAs/CFAs, known as “Wizards”, and once the bids roll in you pick the expert that you feel most comfortable with.
Once you pick the winning bid offered by one of the Wizards, you just have to pay for their service and they will send you an email with a detailed response to your finance question.
From taxes to student loans to retirement planning, you can get detailed answers to all of your questions — all in the same place. Not only is it cheaper than hiring an accountant, but it saves you a lot of frustration trying to Google reliable answers to your specific questions.
Plus, if you’re happy with the site and tell a friend, BIDaWiz will hand over $5 for the referral. And who doesn’t like an extra $5 in their pocket?
