Managing your finances is of the utmost importance, and can sometimes be overly time consuming. That’s why the emergence of personal finance web applications has been such a great addition to the internet. It’s also putting a younger generation, not known for their money management savvy, in the driver’s seat when it comes managing their money in a place which feels only natural for them — the world wide webs.
But while managing your money in front of your laptop in the comfort of your own home is awesome, managing it on the go is even better. So like every other great web app that we’ve spotlighted before, we’re going to take a look at the best free iPhone apps for managing your money on the go.
Mint iPhone app
Similar to the Mint money management website, the iPhone app lets you see your account balances all in one screen and check your budgets on the go — a good thing to have when you’re contemplating grabbing some takeout on your way home from work and aren’t sure if you have the cash to cover it.

Daily Finance
For you hardcore stock traders, never worry about checking in on stock quotes during the day. Get them delivered to your iPhone in real time by using the Daily Finance app, which allows you to pull up stock quote from BATS exchange in real time and quotes from NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX with a 15 minute delay time. Not to be labeled a one trick pony, it also offers up current news, interactive charts and the ability to create portfolios and watch lists.

Tip and Split It
Going out to dinner with friends is a blast — until the bill comes. Then it’s fifteen minutes of splitting the bill and calculating the tip. Tip and Split It was formed to nix all those head calculations in the bud. You simply enter the bill and the number of people to split it with and this super easy tip calculator does the rest. No more doing long division on napkins!

Cell Minute Tracker
I’m pretty good about keeping my phone calls to a bare minimum and chatting it up after 9pm to take advantage of my “off-peak” hours. But for those chatty Cathy types, the Cell Minute Tracker iPhone app may be a godsend. Not only does it keep track of the minutes you’ve used on your cell phone plan, it also keeps up with the number of text messages and the amount data you’ve used, which makes it irreplaceable in today’s society with the sheer amount of texting and data we use on the go.

ATM Hunter
If there’s one area that New Yorker’s get hit the most with in the pocket, it’s ATM fees. Hiking an extra 6 blocks to your closest bank branch when there’s a bodega slap across the street is just not an attractive option. The ATM Hunter app battles this issue by allowing you to zero in on ATMs nearby that are surcharge free, wheelchair accessible, drive thru, and offer deposit sharing. You can search by address or location name (as in the nearest to the bar you’re at). Plus, this iPhone app was developed by Mastercard, and the possibility of getting anything for free from a credit company is so slim that downloading it almost gives you a faint feeling of sticking it to the man.

Bill Tracker
Paying bills online is a definitely step in the right direction to making payments easier and more seamless, but keeping track of confirmation numbers and when you paid something is a little more complicated, not to mention can add clutter when you’re printing out confirmation receipts. Enter Bill Tracker, which is an iPhone app that lets you quickly and easily set up your monthly bills and sends you reminders to pay. A pretty basic application, but the real pro is that is keeps track of how much you paid and when you paid it, making backtracking to past bills an ease. The only seeming downfall is that you have to enter in recurring bills each month, as there is no feature that will allow you to do that in the Free version. The upgraded version that allows you to set up recurring bills is $3.99.

Receipts Lite
Receipts Lite is a really cool application that’s perfect for people who regularly go on business trips and/or run a business from home and need to be reimbursed for expenses or file them away for tax season. This handy little app lets you add in your own receipt, take a photo with an iPhone or upload them from a photo library to be stored in your receipts folder and backs them up to an external database so that you can retrieve them with ease. No more rushing to dig up year old receipts for tax season.

@Steve – WealthCalc looks cool. Figuring out my future fortune is always a fun time.
@John – Budget Planner sounds cool, but what makes them different from every other budget planning software/iPhone app?
@Lauren
it forecast your future balance, right now every single app shows only the budget for today. Assuming all your expenses happen on the same day, but as you may know, your balance changes every day because next week you will get your cable bill or your gas today, so after you input all your expenses and the upcoming ones if you have a set amount, you will know when are you positive or negative. take a look at the tutorial, it kind of gives you an idea of the application
Hi all,
Back in January I wrote a tool much like Budget-Planner (I didn’t actually know about it beforehand, so no… I did not steal the idea). I wrote it mainly for myself, because I couldn’t find a good enough budgeting app to suit my needs. my app is called Budget, Bills and Balance Forecasting. You input your bills and income, update the balance, and it generates a forecast of what your balance will look like as you pay those bills and as income comes in (either list style sorted by date, or calendar style). It has many other features, such as automatically updating balance, creating exceptions for irregular amounts and due dates, and more. I just submitted version 3.0, which features Push Reminders. http://www.balanceforecastingapp.me
@Lauren, sorry that I’m selfishly advertising on my blog. But if people visit my site from here, I promise I’ll send you a check!
