Cell Phone

Work for the government or a mega-corporation?  Put that agency to work and take advantage of possible cell phone corporation discounts.  Most large companies have discounted rate plans for employees who are issued Blackberries or other positions that require a constant 24 hour connectivity to the office.  However, even if you’re not one of the plugged in peeps at your job, you can still piggy back off of your company’s negotiated rate.

According to WiseBread, it works like this:

You (or your spouse or kid) work for XYZ Inc. XYZ has a business account with Cingular. Your family has a shared cellular plan. Cingular and XYZ might have a deal that extends discounts to employees’ families. You punch in your (or your spouse’s or your kid’s) work issued email address to see if you qualify. You’ll get a response detailing the discounts for which you qualified. The cellular bill every month thereafter is 25% off. (Maybe. Discounts vary by provider and even among individual accounts.)

You can also get discounted rates from some cell providers if you’re a student.  To check and see if your employer or university has a discounted corporate rate, click on your cell phone carrier and follow the instructions (most ask for your work/school email address) to see if you qualify.
