In our first installment of Neighborhood Watch, we turned an eye toward Bed-Stuy, one of Brooklyn’s up and coming hotspots. It’s attracting many young, hip residents who wish to partake in the (relatively) cheap rents, gorgeous brownstones, outdoor eateries, and other amenities.
On the opposite end of the scale is Midwood, a decidedly non-hip ‘hood that looks as though it were pulled straight from an episode of Leave It to Beaver. This sleepy area may not have cool bars, a thriving artist community, and the like, but it’s affordable pre-war apartments, safe confines, and short commutes to Coney Island, Prospect Park, and of course, DiFara’s Pizzaria, make it one of New York City’s most underrated neighborhoods. So take a gander at Lifestyler’s video tour of Midwood (and the accompany photo stills below) and discover why it’s one of Brooklyn’s best kept secrets.

- Old school design and greenery; a typical Midwood apartment building.

Did you know that Midwood was one of the 6 original towns that eventually grew together to become Brooklyn at the cusp of the century? The original town, originally called Midwout actually means Middle Wood in dutch.
@Arthur B – Didn’t know that, but it makes sense. Especially with all of the old buildings along Ocean Avenue that look like they were once huge estates.
