My mother was always an avid coupon cutter, and with three kids and a husband I guess she pretty much had to be. Dutifully following in her footsteps, I am picking up the same money-saving habit, albeit in a somewhat updated fashion.

Coupons.com is exactly what it sounds like — downloadable coupons online. The Coupons site works like any other website, in that you input your zip code and it gives you coupons that are valid in your area or neighborhood. They update once a week and usually have around 120 coupons up at any given time.  Although, some coupons are repeats and a few on each page are disguised as advertisements – which is sort of annoying – it’s still a great deal since they frequently have coupons that offer $1 off or more on certain products.

So far, the top 10 best deals I’ve seen on Coupons.com are:

  • $1 off of Perdue Short Cuts – chicken breast strips
  • $.50 off of one gallon of Tuscan Dairy milk
  • $1 off of a package of Fruit of the Loom underwear
  • $2 off of Bayer Heart Advantage product
  • $1 off of ReNu contact lens solution
  • $2 off any 28oz or 32oz Gourmet Dining Skillet Meals
  • $.50 off of Ruffies trash bags
  • $2 off any Schiff Vitamin or Supplement
  • $1 off of a Pert Plus shampoo
  • $.50 off of a 2-pack BIG roll of VIVA paper towels

To use the site, you’re required to download a Coupon Printer application which allows the coupons to print out in an easy, coupon-esque printer form.  I’ve used the coupons at my local C-Town supermarket with no problems; however, as most of you know, I’m a big Whole Foods fan and I’ve yet to try some of the coupons out there. However, since they carry such varied brands compared to local neighborhood grocers, I’m doubtful that they’ll ever come in handy as I’ve yet to see any of the brands that Coupons.com has on the shelves at the Whole Foods Market.

All put, it’s not a bad way to save a few bucks on your grocery shopping and far less time-consuming than browsing the weeklies with a sharp eye and a pair of scissors.  So take a few minutes and browse their list of discounts — there’s sure to be a few bargains to catch your eye.
